Teachers who took part in a seminar on the application of IT in education organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Education said they did not know where to start.

One teacher said his school was unsure about how to develop and enhance its present curriculum.

'We are eager to start working on a new school curriculum and have a lot of ideas, but most of us are not very knowledgeable about computers.' Two teachers from pilot schools taking part in the Government's Information Technology in Education project told Young Post that discussing their experiences with other teachers helped solve some of the problems they encountered.

Computer teacher Chan Hei- chuen of Tai Po Old Market Public School said schools hoping to initiate an IT curriculum should set clear goals.

Mr Chan said most teachers and students were not very familiar with IT so it was important to enhance their computer skills.

'The first step is to give students more opportunities to seek different kinds of information on-line,' he said.
