I totally agree with Amanda Wong's letter (South China Morning Post, May 26), concerning the appalling behaviour of Hong Kong people. It is infuriating to see how the environment is being harmed by selfish individuals who seem oblivious to what they are doing. I frequently see people discard rubbish on to pavements with the classic nonchalant Hong Kong attitude.
The general temperament people have to one another is shocking. In this town, courtesy and manners are non-existent, examples being the shoving one receives when trying to alight from the MTR, or the lack of thanks when doors are held open for others. These are just two classic examples of experiences received on a daily basis from the non-caring, selfish, money-grabbing Hong Konger.
Rudeness breeds rudeness, it all starts with education. However, it seems that Tung Chee-hwa is otherwise preoccupied and consequently manners in Hong Kong look set to take a back seat.
