The man, carrying a paper bag containing two bottles of the liquid, approached the counter at a Standard Chartered Bank branch on the ground floor of the Tak Chung Building at Kwai Chung Road shortly before 9am.
A note declaring robbery and demanding $100,000 was handed to the cashier. At the time, there were two customers in the bank.
'The man then drew a bottle from the paper bag and poured the liquid on the counter,' a police officer said.
He had a lighter and threatened to set the liquid alight in front of the cashier, who handed him $10,000.
