Graduating students at Yu Chun Keung Memorial College No 2 were urged to set goals, develop their talents and treasure what they have received from their families and school.
Dr Cheung Wing-ming, a principal lecturer of the Hong Kong Institute of Education, was invited to the school as guest-of- honour for its 16th speech day.
He was impressed by the school's seating of graduating Form Five and Seven students in the front rows. 'This shows the school gives these students high priority. They are no ordinary students, but the VIPs of today's event,' he said.
Dr Cheung said it was important that the school showed respect for their students and gave them recognition.
While most of these young adults were preparing to further their studies, some would be joining the workforce.
'You may experience more expectations than when you were at school. You have to be competitive and responsive to societal needs and changes,' Dr Cheung said. He recalled his own daughter's speech day last year when the girls were reminded that they were also competing against the workforce in neighbouring countries.
Dr Cheung said: 'The most important thing for our young achievers in the next century will be to develop all their talents in a rounded education system.' Dr Cheung reminded students to cherish what they have received from parents and teachers who showed them unconditional care and support as they were growing up.
