Airline and pilots strike deal

Chronology of the dispute between pilots and Cathay Pacific: August 25, 1998: Rumours emerge the airline has asked pilots to take a 20 per cent pay cut.

March 3, 1999: Pilots oppose pay cuts but say they are ready to negotiate.

March 16: Cathay delivers ul timatum asking pilots to agree to the pay cuts or quit.

March 20: Pilots file a writ in the High Court against alleged work abuses.

May 25: Pilots issued a new ultimatum - accept a revised salary deal and pay cut, retire early, or be sacked on June 11.

May 27: Pilots write to Tung Chee-hwa for help.

May 28: Pilots call in sick, forcing Cathay to cancel three flights and stop taking bookings.
