Two schoolgirls were among 17 people arrested in warehouses where labels on Intel microprocessors were changed illegally to show higher speeds, according to Customs officers.

Ben Leung Lun-cheung from the Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau said the students, aged 14 and 15, were packing items in a warehouse in Cheung Sha Wan raided at about 3pm on Tuesday and another in Kowloon Bay.

Officers seized 3,334 relabelled Intel Central Processing Units, more than 15,000 computer accessories and labels and 760 counterfeit mobile phone batteries.

'The genuine Intel Central Processing Units of lower speeds had their megahertz ratings increased by putting in non-genuine Intel chips and then their exterior labels were re-marked with higher speeds,' he said.
