Eggs from the European Union appear again at Cheung Sha Wan Food Wholesale Market yesterday after a ban, caused by the dioxin contamination scare, was lifted. But public confidence remained dented. Lam Man-fai, owner of Yu Cheong Egg Wholesale Company, said: 'People haven't fully resumed their confidence in European eggs. They still prefer mainland eggs.' Prices have remained unaffected. Mr Lam said that before the ban, 80 per cent of the supply came from Germany and the Netherlands, but this had now dropped by half.
