Pupil drowns at Repulse Bay

A schoolboy drowned off Repulse Bay Beach yesterday. So Sau-kwan, 14, was with two friends when he got into difficulty about 10 metres from shore.

Lifeguards rescued him and applied first aid, but an ambulance called at 4.08pm did not arrive until 4.30pm. A government spokesman said the delay was due to congestion caused by an accident. Police, however, said there was no accident in the area.

Sau-kwan was declared dead on arrival at Tang Shiu Kin Hospital at 4.56pm. He lived with his labourer father and mother, a cleaner, in Cho Chong Village, Pokfulam.
