AIRLINES can expect cheaper landing fees if new Airport Authority proposals to boost revenue are implemented.
The planned concession comes amid fierce criticism by the air transport sector, which says charges at Chek Lap Kok are 60 per cent higher than those at Kai Tak.
Only Tokyo and Osaka's airports were more expensive, they said.
Authority chief executive Billy Lam Chung-lun said yesterday that reducing landing fees would be an option to be considered when reviewing airport charges.
'One idea is to give concessions during non-peak hours, or we might offer lower fees for new airlines or new routes,' he said.
Also being considered is a plan to develop the old pier into a cargo pier for mainland vessels, and to rent out 85 hectares of land at the northeast side of the airport for exhibitions or open-air theatre.
