HIGH-QUALITY electronic goods worth $3 million have been seized by the Marine Police from a mainland-bound fishing boat off Quarry Bay.
More than 60 boxes of electronic equipment, ranging from digital cameras to vehicle compressors, were found during the operation on Friday, police reported yesterday.
They said it was the largest seizure of electronic equipment in the past two to three years.
Marine Police Divisional Commander Leung Wai-shing said the increase in smuggling could be related to the fishing ban, which has left many fishermen with no work.
'We will keep a close liaison with our mainland counterpart to ensure a smooth fishing-ban period,' he said.
Besides the seizure, Marine Police also intercepted two smuggling speedboats.
