Hong Kong's commitment to becoming a technology centre in Asia has spurred plans by Britain-based Simoco to locate its regional office in the SAR.

Yip Hon Mun, regional managing director at the provider of mobile-communications services, said recent initiatives by the SAR to build its technology base were encouraging.

'We are looking for the best track record, consistent hands-off government, good infrastructure and a well-educated work force, Mr Yip said.

'And Hong Kong has always been one of the top choices.' Mr Yip said the Government's allocation of land for the Cyberport project, as well as other initiatives and its economic policies would attract investors.

Simoco helps firms integrate information technology, telephony, mobile radio and mobile data equipment for more effective communications.
