Looking after Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista may seem like a fantasy for some, but for Bruce McLaren, it's all in a day's work.
Bruce is a bodyguard and the owner of security company Signal 8. The firm provides services to nightclubs, restaurants and promoters in the entertainment industry - and looks after various celebrities when they come to town.
'Most people think that you have to be good at fighting or martial arts to be a bodyguard but 99 per cent of the time, it's good preparation and planning which is the most important thing,' says Bruce, who used to be a marine engineer and fireman before setting up his company seven years ago.
According to Bruce, most celebrities are not very security conscious. Most of the time, his job involves restraining over-enthusiastic fans - but things occasionally take a more serious turn.
'Sometimes a celebrity has a stalker, in which case, my job gets more complicated,' he says.
Among the celebrities Bruce has guarded are Whitney Houston, Cindy Crawford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Gates, Kate Moss and Michael Chang.
Signal 8 has also provided security at concerts for performers including Celine Dion, Phil Collins, the Prodigy, Suede and Peter Gabriel.
