Hong Kong International School in Tai Tam (tel: 2812-2305) is Mandarin and Spanish camps, combining literature appreciation with cartoons and role-playing, for six- to 15-year-olds. Held 9 am - noon, Monday to Friday, they cost $3,520 for 13 days and $4,023 for 15 days.

In the Young Authors and Illustrators course, nine- to 12-year-olds learn writing skills and how to compile their stories, poems and pictures into a book using computer software. Courses are held from 9 am - noon or 12.30 pm - 3.30 pm, Monday to Friday, and costs $3,720 for 13 days and $4,223 for 15 days.

EF Language Travel is running 36 summer trips to Britain, the United States and Australia for children aged nine to 18 who are interesting in learning English. Prices range from $24,480 to $28,980 for three to four weeks, inclusive of flights and accommodation with local families or in college dormitories. Children aged 12 to 17 can join the 1999 Youth Arts Camp in Beijing, from July 24 - August 4. The programme offers workshops and seminars in Chinese painting, folk art, Beijing Opera, puppet shows, folk dance and music, as well as visits to monuments, local villages, night markets and a movie studio.
