Former legislator Dr Law Cheung-kwok says he has quit the Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood to avoid allegations of a conflict of interest over his work at a research institute chaired by Tung Chee-hwa's special adviser.

The resignation of Dr Law, previously the party's vice-chairman, was accepted by the ADPL on Saturday and the decision was effective immediately.

He has been research director and chief economist of the Hong Kong Policy Research Institute since July last year.

The institute is chaired by the Chief Executive's special adviser, Paul Yip Kwok-wah, and conducts research on Hong Kong's political and economic issues.

Dr Law did not agree his affiliation with the ADPL would pose any conflict of interest with his work.

'However, there has been criticism on my objectivity in conducting the research, So I better quit,' Dr Law said. He denied he had any differences with other core party members.
