A seven-year-old boy was subjected to sex assaults over a six-month period after being lured from a play area with the offer of sweets, a jury heard yesterday.

The 40-year-old attacker preyed on the child and several other young boys as they played in an open space at a New Territories village, prosecutor Arthur Luk Yee-shun told the Court of First Instance.

'He threatened to chop the boy to death if he told his mother,' Mr Luk said.

The accused man denies six charges of attempted buggery without consent and six alternative charges of indecent assault.

Nicknamed 'the simpleton', the man led the children to a public toilet in the village where the indecent acts on the boy allegedly took place over six months from the start of last year.

'The facts for the next five incidents are largely similar,' said Mr Luk. 'The accused approached the boy and his friends while they were playing, offered them sweets and took them to a toilet.' He was arrested on June 20 last year.
