The father of a 10-year-old girl missing from home for more than 24 hours made an emotional plea yesterday for her return.

Primary Four student Yeung Ka-man was last seen by her mother at about 8am on Wednesday when the girl, wearing her school uniform and carrying a pink rucksack, left her home in Lime Street, Tai Kok Tsui.

She was reported missing early yesterday after she failed to return home.

Police said the girl told her mother she was going to school even though the summer holidays began earlier this month, saying there were school activities she was required to attend.

'She didn't have any money or food with her when she left home. Since she has disappeared for more than 24 hours, I fear she could have met with an accident,' her father, a decorator, said.

'She is a quiet girl and a good daughter. She never went out to play without us or ran away from home. We did not scold her before her disappearance. I really don't know what could have happened to her.' Her six-year-old brother said: 'I miss her very much and I wish my sister would come home soon and play with me.' Chief Inspector Peter Lo Kai-wah said it was possible the girl had run away.

Yesterday, a search, involving more than 100 police, was launched in Tai Kok Tsui, Mongkok and Sham Shui Po and all beat officers have been put on alert to look for Ka-man.
