I am writing to urge the Urban Services Department to improve the ventilation and sanitation of San Hui Market immediately.
I have to go to San Hui Market every day to buy groceries. It is the worst market I have ever been to in Hong Kong.
Temperatures inside the building are always in excess of 30 degrees Celsius and the air quality is very poor. To make matters worse, the toilets are in a disgusting state.
Rubbish is just left lying in the corridors. Given the hot and wet conditions, such lack of hygiene creates a ripe breeding ground for disease and puts at risk the health of both stall operators and shoppers.
The market was opened more than 10 years ago and since then conditions have deteriorated.
It is high time the department renovated the premises.
