FOR the summer, Bally's shoe, accessory and pret-a-porter collections offer an attractive mix of city and casual wear. The collection acquires its character through its high-quality natural materials, exclusively designed knits and wovenfabrics, a fine colour selection and selected leathers. The total look by Bally for summer invites men to play creatively with colours and cuts, with shoes and ties, pullovers and shirts. This is encouraged by basic items in classic shapes with interesting details. As well as the white shirt with a starched collar, which is currently making a comeback, Bally has: lightly tailored jackets co-ordinated with straight cotton cuff-less trousers; jacquard linen pullovers featuring geometric shapes; silk shirts with cheerful prints; multi-colour sweat shirts with decorative inserts; and parkas and leather blazers in unusual colours. Bally's fashionable appearance is characterised by its classic shoe styles. Among these are the comfortable and precisely manufactured welted models such as full brogues, monks and derbys. Bally has styles such as sandals, a ''chasse'' model in canvas and natural leather, a casual laced shoe of dark green, and a coarsely woven oiled leather or a grapefruit yellow nubuck laced shoe with a thick, red cell-air sole. The ties are coloured in large geometric patterns or tiny colour prints. The four basic themes are Intermporel, Colonial, Balneaire, and Regate. In the 1993 summer season, the themes have been defined with such intuition that the flow of the collection is never interrupted. Intermporel is an elegant city look which uses colour and special pattern plays as well as exclusive fabrics and thoughtfully selected shoe types. The suits are consciously formal but not dull. The fabrics (linen and silk or cotton mixtures) show interesting textures or a fine Prince-de-Galles and pin-stripes. Beautiful greys and soft blue nuances set the trend and look fashionably daring with shirts and ties in bright colours. The black, smooth-welted derbys or full brogues, and the parka casually thrown over the shoulders give this look the final touch. Balneaire is a summer idea which applies to both the modern business world and vacations. The theme is characterised by well-cut linen jackets in spicy colours or blazers of ultra-fine wool with a mini-chequered pattern. The light and dark contrast is the focus. For example, the off-white trousers call for a jacket in dark red and black checks and the grapefruit yellow jacket needs marine trousers. Here, a pair of laced shoes in yellow nubuck with a perforated toe and a red cell-air sole look very smart. The linen and silk sea-blue blazer, worn with black linen trousers, a shirt with blue and white wide stripes and rich black monks, is ideal for an elegant early summer party. The Colonial theme finds its expression in structured fabrics, casual shapes and subtle colours. The shoes are colour co-ordinated and come in beautiful materials such as canvas and natural leather or woven oiled nubuck. For an easy day at work or a stroll through the city, Bally has a selection of knit cotton polo shirts in subtle tone-in-tone patterns and pullovers of linen jacquard in a delicate country print. A patterned silk shirt and a green leather blazer worn over off-white cotton trousers are quite fashionable this summer. There are new canvas and natural leather derbys or laced shoes of oiled green woven leather. A Saharienne with wide bermudas makes the perfect outfit for vacation; daring men will get away with wearing it in the city. The Regate theme was created for vacation and leisure time. Off-white, green, red and blue are the colours chosen for jeans and long T-shirts, air-force jackets and parkas, sweatshirts and linen polo shirts. Here, deck shoes are a must: there are assorted laced shoes of nubuck and soft moccasins in co-ordinated colours.
