Could you recommend a Web site design software which is good for managing databases? I am thinking of a principally text-based Web site so it does not have to be the best at creating graphics.
ANGELA TAM Hong Kong One of the simplest database programs to use is FileMaker Pro, and it certainly works well with the Web. I know someone who has used it for years as the back end behind a Web-based news service that is heavy on text. The site is updated daily with about 20 articles a day. All of them go into separate categories on the database, and can be searched interactively.
Of course, this kind of site takes some expertise to set up, but with FileMaker Pro it is not hard to get to a level of reasonable skill fairly quickly. Also, the software works on both the PC and Macintosh platforms.
I am assuming you know something about HTML in order to build the front end of the Web site. If you do not - and I have recommended this before - GoLive from Adobe is as good a Web design package as any with which to start. It works well with FileMaker Pro.
