Pricing strategy the perfect way to stem piracy

Despite knowing that piracy is not good, we still buy pirated products because they are much more affordable than the genuine article.

Recently, a few over-zealous legislators have been lobbying against pirated goods.

This is unreasonable and unacceptable as Hong Kong is a free market where consumers have the right to buy what they like.

So, combatting piracy through legislation will bring about undesirable consequences.

I don't understand why retailers don't slash the price of the genuine goods to compete with the illegal ones.

Once the difference in price of such goods is reduced, consumers will buy the genuine ones for their higher quality and guarantees, hence stemming piracy.
