Ten mainland security guards and pedestrians were injured after a Hong Kong man detonated a hand grenade near a Shenzhen nightclub, a mainland court has heard.

Shenzhen City Intermediate People's Court heard that Hong Kong resident Lee Chung-yu fetched the grenade and a pistol from a friend after a dispute with another customer at the nightclub in Longjiang town on January 29.

The customer had gone when he returned to the club but Lee believed the security guards had helped him hide, the Guangzhou Daily said yesterday.

Lee threatened the guards with the pistol before snatching it away.

He then took out the hand grenade and threatened to blow up the nightclub.

'The security guards chased after him. Lee detonated the grenade in a frenzy and hurled it at the guards,' the newspaper said.
