123 safe as ferry holed

A catamaran carrying 119 passengers and four crew hit a buoy off Green Island and began taking in water late last night.

The Hung Wai hit the buoy shortly after 10pm after it left Central bound for Cheung Chau and Mui Wo, Lantau Island.

The Hongkong & Yaumati Ferry Company despatched two ferries to the stricken vessel. One took 21 passengers on to Cheung Chau, while the other took the remaining 98 to Mui Wo.

As the catamaran began to list, firemen helped to pump out the vessel.
