HONGKONG had to settle for a 2-2 draw after surrendering a two-goal lead against home side Lebanon in their World Cup qualifying match in Beirut last night.

Eastern midfielder Tam Siu-wai gave the territory a perfect start to their Group D match with a 13th-minute goal and South China winger Loh Wai-Chi made it 2-0 six minutes later.

But Lebanon clawed their way back into the game a minute before the interval with a goal from Rafi Joulfagi.

And with only 10 minutes remaining, Fadi Allouch grabbed the equaliser to ruin Hongkong's hopes of grabbing a huge psychological advantage over favourites South Korea who were surprisingly held to a goalless draw by Bahrain earlier.

Hongkong are still top of the group with three points from their two matches, having beaten Bahrain 2-1 on Friday in the first match of the tournament.
