KMB said (letter, South China Morning Post, July 22) its Octopus installation programme started in September 1997 and was progressing 'progressively'. Two years on, only 1,600 out of 4,000 buses are installed with Octopus. This is not 'progressive'.
I was at the Tsim Sha Tsui bus terminus on July 21 (just outside the Star Ferry) and wanted to take a KMB bus to nearby Nathan Road.
The KMB staff at the terminus told me none of the buses at Tsim Sha Tsui was Octopus ready. Without any small change, I had to opt for a $15 taxi ride.
I had thought about sending an e-mail to KMB to express my views, but was told by its press relations office that KMB does not have an e-mail address. I would suggest KMB should save all the money on TV advertising and spend it on real service upgrading such as Octopus installation and an e-mail system.
