When Harry Pang relocated to Hong Kong from New York two years ago, the first thing he wanted each morning was a bagel.
But he couldn't find any that he liked and had to settle for either congee or McDonald's.
'My friends and I got together and said 'that's what we need here, a bagel shop' - and that's how Manhattan Bagels was born,'' says Harry, an investment banker.
He and his wife pooled resources with some of their friends to start the business.
Situated at the International Finance Centre, adjacent to Exchange Square, Manhattan Bagels has been doing a roaring trade since it opened three weeks ago.
'We expect to eventually sell 500 to 600 bagels a day,' says Harry, who won't disclose where he gets them from in America - for fear of competitors getting the same quality.
