The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce supports the proposal to import foreign textile workers.
'The SAR's development and growth cannot afford to be held back by the lack of skilled labour in particular industries and job categories,' the chamber's chief economist, Ian Perkin, said.
'Local industries cannot be expected to provide more jobs for local people if they cannot get the necessary skills to keep their businesses running efficiently, productively and profitably,' he said.

Mr Perkin said the chamber had always backed a flexible approach to labour importation.
