Taiwan-born Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro, the voice of Disney's Tarzan, was interviewed on Cable News Network last week. He spoke to Asian Expressions anchor Karuna Shinsho.

 The following are some highlights of the interview.

 Kaneshiro: (on the differences in doing Tarzan in three different languages) Actually some of them are different from the original, I mean from the English, because some of the American jokes cannot be translated into Cantonese. So that was different.

  Shinsho: And you mentioned earlier that there's not much dialogue - it's mostly sound and making ape/monkey noises. Maybe you could show me how you do the ape sounds.

  Kaneshiro: The one I liked most was . . . 'ooh, ooh, hee, hey, ooh'. That's what Tarzan teaches Jane (when he teaches her) to speak ape language.

  Shinsho: What do you feel more comfortable in, in terms of acting: Japanese, Mandarin or Cantonese? What is easier for you?   Kaneshiro: When I am working in Japan, I feel more comfortable because the schedules are on time, and you know when you can leave and have time with your friends. But in Taiwan and Hong Kong, you don't know when you are going to finish.

  But in Japan, sometimes you will feel bored because the schedule is (fixed), and they won't let you change it. But in Taiwan and Hong Kong, you will have many surprises. And sometimes the surprises are very good for you, and will bring up your career in the entertainment business. But some will maybe bring you down.

  In Japan, at the very beginning of the year, you will know that this year you will do this, this, this and this. But in Taiwan, you have no idea what you are going to do this year. But maybe you will have some big breaks.

  Shinsho: You mentioned career. What are your hopes and dreams? A lot of people in Asia think that Hollywood is the biggest dream. But for you, is there something else?   Kaneshiro: Hollywood? Well, I love to watch Hollywood mov ies. But being in Hollywood, I don't think that it is (for me). I know many actors and actresses in Japan or in Hong Kong who would love to go to try and get into Hollywood movies . But I don't think I have the same kind of interest. I love to watch, but I would not want to be in Hollywood, because I don't think that I belong there.

  Shinsho: Well, before we go, can you give us that Tarzan scream?   Kaneshiro: Actually, I don't do the Tarzan scream, because they want the scream to be the same in all of the versions. So they use the original one.
