Air pollution rises as 44 convicted

THERE were 44 convictions for air pollution offences last month, including 28 for excess construction dust. The roadside air pollution index never went below 56, while general station readings, which had remained between 31 (medium) and 52 (high) in the first three weeks of July, shot up to the 70s and 80s towards the end of the month. Emission tests were conducted on 4,216 vehicles by the Environmental Protection Department, with 261 failing.
