A 17-year-old student from Diocesan Girls' School yesterday scored what is believed to be the SAR's highest marks - 10 straight A1 grades.

Six students from the school, plus two from La Salle College and one each from Queen's College and St Paul's also scored 10 straight As.

Gina Yuen Ching-wan, who scored the 10 A1s, said: 'I didn't expect to get 10 As as it's not easy to handle so many subjects. There was simply too much to study.

'However, my family and classmates have been very supportive.

'Whenever we had doubts . . . we'd ask our teachers who were always willing to answer our questions. There was no family pressure at all, although there were some expectations.' Principal Lau Pong Yee-lam said the brilliant results were the best farewell present to mark her retirement next month.

'Our school has never produced so many 10-A students before. At most we had had three or four in past years.'
