A building supervisor was cleared yesterday of accepting $400,000 in bribes in return for lax inspections of a Housing Authority home for the elderly. Woo Kin-chung also was acquitted of soliciting $270,000 from three subcontractors at the Ko Chiu Road Estate construction site in Yau Tong, Kowloon. Deputy Judge Wong Man-kit ruled that Woo, 28, had no case to answer regarding these offences. However, he said Woo did have to answer to an amended charge of soliciting $200,000 in bribes from three staff of two subcontractors, Junic Construction Co and Houng Kee Co. The offence allegedly took place between July 1 and August 31 last year. The prosecution alleges Woo 'abstained from performing any act in his capacity as a public servant' while supervising the elderly home project. Woo had pleaded not guilty to four charges of soliciting an advantage and 14 of accepting an advantage. He was a site supervisor for Rocco Design, which managed the project for the authority. The case continues.
