HEAVY discounts and the novelty of home shopping have spurred such a boom in demand for grocery delivery that supermarkets are struggling to cope with orders.
Requests are going missing and goods are arriving up to four days late despite pledges of same-day service.
Shops say demand for delivery has soared in the past month - orders have doubled in some cases - and they have hired more staff in the battle to keep up.
But they are still taking orders and promising ambitious response times - and customers are not impressed.
The chaos comes amid a price war between Wellcome and ParknShop, which has led to long queues at the checkout as well as a flood of orders by phone, fax and the Internet.
This is on top of unexpectedly intense interest in home shopping since the launch two months ago of tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-ying's AdMart grocery delivery service.
