COMMERCIAL fallout from the supermarket price war has led Japanese dairy-product giant Yakult to halt supplies of its yoghurt drink to ParknShop stores, which have been selling it at discounted prices.
Wellcome, not yet hit by the ban, offered a discount on the drink yesterday, a day after ParknShop launched a similar promotion.
Wellcome is selling a five-bottle Yakult pack at $7.40, down from $8.90.
ParknShop began its promotion on Friday at $7.50 per pack, down from $8.90.
The offers meant other stores have not been able to sell their own supplies.
The 7-Eleven chain sells the five-bottle pack at $10.
A supervisor at a Quarry Bay outlet said the popular drink had not been selling since Friday. He supported Yakult's decision to enforce a minimum retail price level.
