Reclaiming enough land for the proposed Disney theme park on Lantau Island could cost the Government more than $11 billion, the South China Morning Post has learned.
The Civil Engineering Department is finalising a consultancy on development of northeast Lantau. It will include a large reclamation at Penny's Bay.
Director of Civil Engineering Bernard Lam Moon-tim would not be drawn on cost estimates, but said two options for reclamation were being discussed with Disney.
He said either full-scale, sea-clay dredging or partial dredging would be adopted.
Full-scale dredging was more likely as it had the quickest completion time, which will suit the urgency of the theme-park plans.
'I cannot disclose the cost because it will affect negotiations,' Mr Lam said.
But according to the revised blueprint for northeast Lantau, released on Friday, 118.11 hectares of the reclaimed site at Penny's Bay is marked for the theme park and 53.53 hectares for hotels.
