The Government will organise a series of civic education activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1. Under the theme 'Hearts and Hopes for Motherland and Hong Kong', the programmes will target the younger generation, helping them to acquire a better understanding of the mainland, ranging from the country's history and traditions to political, economic and social developments. There will be exhibitions, lectures, a Chinese art market, concerts, dance performances, films and a Chinese food fiesta from September 25 to October 3. To kick off the programme, the Tokens of Regards Design Competition was launched earlier this month. Those aged from six to 14 and from 15 to 25 are eligible to participate. Entries can be any form of drawing and Chinese calligraphy. Deadline for submission of entries is August 28. For inquiries, call 2835-2500 or 2835-1419.
