A NEPALESE farmer who wanted to earn extra money to support 13 members of his family tried to smuggle drugs into Hongkong in his body, the High Court heard yesterday. Raj Ghale, 32, pleaded guilty to trafficking in more than 580 grams of heroin and was sentenced to 12 years in jail. Crown Counsel Mr Albert Wong told the court that Raj was stopped at Kai Tak airport after a flight from Bangkok on December 5 last year. A urine sample indicated he may have swallowed a dangerous drug. Ms Munira Moosdeen said in mitigation that Raj supported 13 relatives and could not afford to educate his child. He went with a friend to Bangkok where he was offered $3,000 to smuggle drugs.
