I wish to correct the report headlined, 'Elsie Tu urges sect watch' (South China Morning Post, August 16).
In referring to dangerous sects such as that of David Koresh in the US and Shoko Asahara in Japan, I said that governments (note the small 'g') should monitor dangerous cults if seen to be cheating or teaching doomsday, as tragedy resulted in both the cases mentioned.
Unfortunately, you misreported that I was urging the Hong Kong SAR Government to step up monitoring the Falun Gong here.
I have no direct knowledge of the Hong Kong sect of Falun Gong, and have no reason to pick on them as your newspaper alleges.
