An 81-year-old took her place at the tables as the Hong Kong ladies team took part in a bridge tournament which opened in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday.
Ella Graca was appearing at the Cyberwall 3rd Hong Kong SAR Intercity Bridge Championships, which included teams from England, at the Miramar Hotel.
She has been playing the game, much loved by Deng Xiaoping, for more than half a century and has represented Hong Kong for 20 years.
The game is undergoing a renaissance in the territory and has been officially sanctioned as an Olympic sport for the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy.
In January, the Hong Kong ladies' team will compete at the World Championships in Bermuda for the first time.
And an SAR youth team is currently competing at the World Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
