There was a party atmosphere as secondary students gathered for a singing contest at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai.

 The audience, comprising mostly teenagers, were thrilled to see their friends on stage and gave a rupturous welcome to special guests, Canto-pop stars Jun Kung Shek-leung, Candy Lo Hau-yam, Kelly Chen Wai-lam and Mark Lui Chung-tak.

  The show was hosted by Commercial Radio's popular disc jockeys Sammi and Siu-yee.

   Organised by the Music Society of St Joseph's College, Summer '99 - Music Vibration helped raise money for the United Nations Children's Fund.

  Twenty-six groups from eight schools took part in the event. The boys won the team prize with their hilarious performances which included singing with exaggerated body movements, totally out of tune, and in a girl's high-pitched voice.

 However, the other prizes went to girls.

  Chief organiser Ivan Wang Yoa-leung, 16, chairman of the Music Society at St Joseph's, said:  'The inter-school singing contest held in March was very successful. That's why we decid ed to organise a bigger party to invite more friends to join and allow others to share the joy.

 The guest singers were another big attraction and being connected to a charity purpose made the event more meaningful than a normal singing contest.'  A duet by Yvoone Yeung Yee- sung and Jolie Chan Yuen-kei took the first prize. The fifth formers at St Paul's Convent School, both 16, performed Awaken by Na Ying. It was the duo's last performance as Yuen- kei will be flying to the United States next month to continue her studies. Yee-sung said she felt sad that her childhood friend was leaving. 'We have known each other since primary school. We are good partners on stage and close friends in real life.

 'I have wonderful memories of our time together and I wish her all the best,' Yee-sung said.

  First runner-up was Josephine Chan Ka-yan, 17, a Form Five student at St Paul's Secondary School, who gave a rendition of Faye Wong's I Do .

  She was followed by Lorraine Sinn Hoi-yan, Tracey Cheng Nga-ying, and Sandy Tang Sin- mei, all 17-year-old sixth formers at St Paul's Convent School, with their performance of Kelly Chen's Lover's Concerto .
