DETECTIVES are trying to trace $2 million worth of precious silks believed stolen last month by an armed gang who were arrested on Sunday as they were about to rob a Kwun Tong industrial building.
The gang had been under close investigation for a month but it was only after their arrest on Sunday that police discovered they might have been responsible for two other raids.
On April 11, an elderly night watchman was bound and gagged at a Sha Tin warehouse and the silk taken. Ten days later a night watchman in Wan Chai was bound and gagged but the robbers were disturbed and aborted the raid.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Barnes, of the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau, said yesterday investigations had been based specifically on Sunday's raid, following a tip from a paid informant.
''We had no information about the other two [crimes] until we had conducted follow-up interviews, so now we'll be seeking what we can on them as well,'' Chief Inspector Barnes said.
Crucial to the investigation was the missing $2 million worth of silk, which may have been stolen to order.
