Black rainstorm

Some villagers stayed put even though a black rainstorm warning was issued for the second consecutive morning.

Despite a heavy downpour and a discharge of water from the Shenzhen Reservoir, residents of Shek Wu San Tsuen, Sheung Shui, preferred to stay at home, like many other villagers.

Some went out to buy food once the water from Ng Tung Ho subsided by mid-morning.

Lee Sai, 61, said Monday's flooding was the third most serious in her 21 years in the village.

'The water came into the [Taoist] temple and was about thigh-high,' she said. 'My master and I had to stay in the cock-loft as we watched the water nearly reaching the top of the altar.'
