The Town Planning Board has agreed to quicken processing of planning applications for selected developments such as industrial-office buildings. The board aims to shorten the handling time of applications to between four and six weeks from eight. The new system will benefit straightforward cases such as industrial-office buildings within an industrial zone. The new system will also quicken the processing of applications for the development of ancillary offices or showrooms, provisions stores, fast-food restaurants, newspaper stands and hardware shops in industrial buildings. Applications to build open storage and port back-up uses within open storage and industrial zones, bathhouse and massage establishments, and restaurants in villages will be streamlined. Small-scale community developments such as applications to build tutorial schools and kindergartens in residential buildings may benefit.
