THE loading, discharge and transfer of freight at the Greek port of Piraeus is carried out exclusively by the Piraeus Port Authority.
According to the PPA, under special circumstances it may licence third parties in the public or private sectors to undertake the work with their own personnel and means.
Vessel approach, berthing, mooring or anchorage in the port region is regulated by the PPA berthing and port dues department.
The port's two container terminals are supported by six bridge cranes, two of 35-tonne lift capacity and four of 40-tonne capacity, 31 straddle carriers and 32 tractors for the carriage and stacking of containers.
The terminals also are served by a technical back-up service consisting of four workshops and a fully trained workforce of 80.
