The Equal Opportunities Commission may launch an inquiry into recruitment procedures in the disciplinary forces, it has emerged.
Commissioner Anna Wu Hung-yuk said on an RTHK radio programme yesterday that the body had noticed initial evidence of bias in the selection of officers.
'We found some bias in a number of areas within the recruitment of officers and we are now looking at it,' she said.
The anti-bias body launched legal action last month on behalf of the son of a schizophrenic woman sacked by the Customs and Excise Department because of her condition.
Wong Wai-kwan claimed he did not know until April that his mother's psychiatric illness was the reason for his dismissal in July 1997.
He said the Customs service had linked her disability to him and unlawfully discriminated against him because of it.
