SEASONAL took a giant step towards their first title in three seasons with a resounding 111-91 win over Fukien in their penultimate Hongkong Division A1 play-off match at the MacPherson Stadium in Mongkok last night. Seasonal, a dominant force in domestic basketball in the 1980s and who made a clean-sweep of the top three local tournaments in 1990, have failed to win a trophy in the last two seasons. They are, however, determined to recapture their past glory with another ''triple crown'' of league, Challenge Shield and Super Commercial Cup. And last night's victory took them to 15 points in the play-offs league, four ahead of Suntex, the only team still in with a chance of overhauling them. Seasonal have one game left - against Suntex. Suntex need to beat Seapower tomorrow to set up a title decider against Seasonal on Saturday. Seasonal were without star guard Ng Chu-yip, who was sidelined by a foot injury, but they were never given a serious threat by Fukien. Leung Yuet-ming led them to an 11-2 lead after only two minutes and they never looked back, pulling away for a 58-45 advantage at half-time. Fukien never got back into the match and a determined David Willard inspired Seasonal to a 20-point victory with an impressive second-half performance. Willard led Seasonal's scoring with 33 points while Leung Yuet-ming also contributed heavily to their success with 24. But top-scorer of the match was Fukien's Benny Anthony with 35 points. Unreliable Suntex, who surprisingly finished second in the regular season, kept alive their title aspirations by overpowering Frankwell 109-78 in the curtain-raiser. Suntex, who led 57-30 at half-time, were led by a 29-point haul by Eric Strothers.
