A fisherman was fighting for his life last night after being hit by lightning on his moored sampan.
Cheung Yau, 52, was admitted to the intensive care unit at United Christian Hospital in critical condition yesterday afternoon.
The sampan had been moored in the Lei Yue Mun channel during a thunderstorm.
Mr Cheung's colleague, Kwok Lau-choi, 49, who suffered hand injuries when helping his friend, was admitted to the same hospital for observation.
'Cheung's sampan was about 100 metres from the shore at the time,' he said.
Senior Inspector Alfred Cheung Yat-fung, of Kwun Tong police station, said: 'When I visited him in hospital, there appeared to be lacerations on his head, probably due to him falling on to the wooden planks. He was badly [shocked].' The two fishermen had been taken to Sam Ka Tsuen ferry pier by colleagues by the time police arrived.
