Secretary for Education and Manpower Joseph Wong Wing-ping said yesterday members of an advisory group to improve the English standards of employees would be appointed later in the week.
Speaking on Commercial Radio, Mr Wong said the group would work with the business sector to create a new English test, concentrating on oral skills and business vocabulary.
The planned English test was first proposed by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce because it was concerned about poor standards in the language.
Mr Wong said the Examination Authority would also review the Form Five Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination and try strengthen the English oral test.
