Plaza Business Centre Management - which runs the common-use lounge at Chek Lap Kok - says it is in talks with the Airport Authority to build a duplicate of its Plaza Airport Transit Lounge in another part of the airport.
Plaza said it plans to construct another lounge in the East Hall of the airport, which would be open in time for Christmas.
The present 6,000 square feet lounge is in the West Hall of Chek Lap Kok. Plaza executive director Song Hoi-see said: 'One thing we have found about Chek Lap Kok is its large size and the difficulty some people have in locating facilities within the airport.
'It takes about 15 minutes to travel from end to end and the train inside the airport, for some reason only travels one way - it doesn't travel west to east.
'So we have decided another lounge is needed to capture the transit passengers waiting in the West Hall of the airport,' Mr Song said.
He said the company hoped that discussions with the authority would conclude favourably within the next week. The new lounge would be about half the size of the present facility and would include a miniature indoor putting green.
Mr Song acknowledged the lounge has had some difficulties due to the downturn in regional air travel.
