A lecturer who saw himself as a loser in his career and love life took a bra and panties from a washing line because he 'wanted to act wild', a court heard yesterday.

City University lecturer Frankey Pun Kit-fai, 38, denies stealing the underwear, saying he was discovered while returning the items.

'I felt that I was a loser, in work and in romance. I was so bored, and very unhappy. I just wanted to act wild, to do something that I would never have thought to do. Like for example looking at underwear not from a magazine but the real thing,' Pun told North Kowloon Court.

He has pleaded not guilty to stealing the underwear from outside an apartment in Shekkipmei Estate on the night of July 10.

Magistrate John Glass ruled that Pun, a lecturer in the department of manufacturing engineering and engineering management, had a case to answer.

A two-time winner of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in 1994 and 1996, Pun told the court he was unhappy that day because he had just celebrated his birthday on July 9 alone.
