More than 100 young people have pledged to promote friendship with other countries while studying abroad this year.
The 111 students were ambassadors in the Hong Kong Student Ambassador Programme, organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and Hong Kong Tourist Association and sponsored by the HongkongBank Foundation.
The student ambassadors received training in July and August and learned more about topics such as tourism, economics, politics, technological development and heritage.
They also attended workshops on social, presentation and programme planning skills and public speaking.
At the inauguration ceremony, David Eldon, chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank ing Corporation, said: 'The programme serves as a reminder that everyone who lives in Hong Kong has a role to play in helping others understand Hong Kong better.' He urged the ambassadors: 'Don't just become an engineer or architect - create results that will benefit future generations.' Vanessa Poon Mei-ting, 18, about to study at Chelsea College of Art and Design, part of the London Institute, said she had a stronger feeling of belonging to Hong Kong after the training.
'It would have been impossible for me to promote Hong Kong before receiving the training,' she said.
