Once again while the world around us watched live coverage of the US Open semi-finals and finals, tennis fans in Hong Kong were left watching replays of the action several days later.
Why is it that Hong Kong cannot get live coverage of this great international sporting event? Maybe Star/ESPN can explain why they televise live up until the quarter-finals. Is it because they cannot pay the rights fees for the later and more exciting rounds? How about the local channels, TVB Pearl and ATV World? Pearl picks up the semis and finals of Wimbledon, why not the US Open? Are the advertising sales departments not able to sell enough ads for these events to cover the costs of rights fees? It would be interesting to hear from someone at the television stations in Hong Kong that show sports why fans in Hong Kong cannot get live coverage of some of the greatest international sporting events in the world.
